BACKGROUND
Yuu spent the first few years of his life alone with his father, Takeru; his mother, Aiko, died when he was only two. He didn't quite understand what death meant at that time. All he knew was that his mother was gone, and she should be there, shouldn't she, and why did father get to sad when he mentioned her? As he grew older he began to understand that mother wasn't there because it was impossible for her to be, and when that clicked in his head he stopped mentioning Aiko and spent most of his time trying to cheer his father up, bringing him drawings and telling him about school once he was old enough to go.

Over time Takeru seemed to get better as well, and, eventually, starting seeing other people again. Not very many, and not very often, but even as a young boy Yuu got the feeling that it wasn't wrong, and that Aiko wouldn't have wanted either of them to be lonely. So Yuu was nice to the few women that Takeru brought home, though it wasn't until Maya started coming over that Yuu really liked any of them. Maya had a daughter, Aria, and from the moment he met the younger girl he liked her. It didn't take long for them to become best friends, and Yuu, for the first time, had someone he could relate to. He was thrilled when he found out that their parents were getting married; it just seemed right, and he had been thinking of the four of them as a family for quite a while by the time the wedding was announced.

Since Maya and Aria showed up in his life, his time has been split between his step-sister and his art. He's a talented young man, and is fine with the way things are. He has everything he needs as far as he's concerned.

PERSONALITY
Yuu can seem a little too serious for someone his age, but that isn't really the case. He's just quiet, really quiet sometimes, though when around people he's comfortable with he can be quiet affable and have a lot to say, especially when he knows a lot about a subject. His main passion is art, and his favorite thing in the world, besides his step-sister Aria, is a blank canvas and jars of paint and a brush gripped between his slim fingers.

While he isn't exactly optimistic, he can't be called pessimistic, either; Yuu takes life as it comes, good or bad, and can easily adapt to most situations. It takes a lot to ruffle him, and even then he gets over most things quickly. One of the few things that makes him truly furious is anyone messing with Aria; he's as protective of her as she is of him. This isn't to say he gets angry when she's around others, but he will get mad if he thinks someone isn't treating her like she deserves.

Life is what is to him, and if he doesn't have many other friends beyond Aria, that's fine by him. He isn't a necessarily social creature, and is generally oblivious to Aira chasing people away from him -- and even if he was aware of it, he would probably take it in stride and not say anything.

APPEARANCE
Yuu inherited his looks from his birth mother; he's small (only 5'3"), with dark hair and wide eyes, and an often serious expression on his face -- or what you can see of his face. His hair usually obscures half of his face, leaving him peering out at the world with one grey-blue eye. His nose is slim and short, and his mouth is set usually set in a neutral line. His entire face lights up when he smiles or laughs. As far as clothing goes, he looks quite put together while in uniform or out in public. When at home, however, he hangs around in old jeans and t-shirts, most of which are in varying degrees of 'covered in paint.'
